About the MSC Program:
MSC is a research-supported 8-week course developed by Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr. Christopher Germer, the co-founders of The Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
Their research demonstrates that self-compassion boosts happiness, improves relationships, helps us maintain healthy habits and long-term health and is strongly associated with reducing anxiety, depression and stress.
MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable us to respond to difficult moments in life with kindness, care and understanding. It helps us normalize the fact that setbacks, failures and imperfection are part of living a human life, and gives us the tools to meet those moments with a caring, loving response; the same way we would treat someone we love.
This program will offer you practical tools to cultivate self-kindness and emotional resilience.
MSC aims to help you build emotional resources that can help you develop the capacity to treat yourself with greater kindness and care while still motivating yourself to take intentional action around the things you want for yourself, your health and your relationships.
You’ll learn the yin and yang of self-compassion; the soft and the fierce ways of providing care and kindness toward yourself rather than beating yourself up.
Course Details
Overview:
8 weekly classes (2.5 hours per class) meeting live online via zoom, plus a virtual silent retreat session (2.5 hours) partway through the program.
Sessions involve guided meditation, short instructional talks, experiential exercises, group discussion and home practices designed to help you apply self-compassion in your daily life.
Weekly guidance to support participants in their home practice in between sessions.
No previous mindfulness or meditation experience is necessary.
We will be sometimes working with difficult emotions. The intention of the MSC program is to provide a safe and supportive environment for exploring how we typically respond when difficult emotions arise and to provide tools for becoming warm and supportive companions to ourselves. You are responsible for taking care of your emotional needs. Please keep in mind that although self-compassion can be very therapeutic, this course is not group therapy.
The following book is highly recommended as a companion to the MSC course though it’s not mandatory:
The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook by Kristin Neff and Christopher GermerEach participant will receive a certificate of completion. This course is a pre-requisite for anyone wanting to do the MSC teacher training.

About us and our MSC practice:
In 2019, Amy, a trained MSC teacher and passionate advocate of this work, taught the 8-week MSC course in-person in Toronto. Her sister-in-law Jenny attended the course just after completing her coach training certification program and was blown away at how life-changing, mindset-shifting, and genuinely impactful this program was. Jenny began weaving the MSC tools and principles into her coaching work and has witnessed the positive impact on her clients.
Amy and Jenny have been practicing MSC individually, together and in group environments ever since.
We are both committed to our own ongoing practice of the work, and love sharing it with others.
In 2022, we co-created and led our annual Embodying Self-Compassion Retreat where we were able to share MSC practices and teachings with groups of women in the beauty of nature in a connected group environment.
Teaching this 8-week course together has been a dream and goal of ours since leading our retreats and we’re very excited to do it in a virtual environment where we aim to cultivate the same level of safety, connection and impact.
Amy is an educator who incorporates her background in mindfulness with her training in social emotional learning and has delivered programming to children, parents and teachers.
Jenny is a Professional Certified Coach who runs a private coaching practice serving clients around the world with a whole person / whole life approach. She leads workshops, group programs and talks on topics in the personal development and growth realm.
